Get the Sotomayor Scoop

Following the Sotomayor story is easy with all of the government's online resources. Start with President Obama's announcement of her as his nominee, where you'll also find the official White House background info on her career. The Library of Congress has a page listing some of her publications and linking to other sites where you can view many of her judicial opinions.

While we all anticipate her confirmation hearings, the Senate Judiciary Committee is preparing for them as well with this site specifically dedicated to Judge Sotomayor. It's being updated with information as it becomes available (hearing dates and submitted questions aren't up yet) and will no doubt carry the hearings live when they take place. You can also see the questionnaire she is required to fill out, and the transcripts of her previous hearings before the committee.

Senators Harry Reid (D-NV) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT), the Judiciary Committee Chairman, each met with Sotomayor earlier this week, as did ranking Judiciary Committee member Jeff Sessions (R-AL). And if anyone can find anything about it on Sessions' website, let me know!

Finally, why should we care about SCOTUS nominees? This fantastic website from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts provides all kinds of multimedia teaching tools to help educators explain how the nominee could impact our lives directly, and why the confirmation process is in place. Highly recommended!
