Effect of Stimulus on Congressional Districts

The White House has released a breakdown of the stimulus package, signed into law on Tuesday as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. These tables and fact sheets include projections of job-creation by industry, by state, and even by congressional district.

UNCG is located in North Carolina's 13th district, and the White House projects 8,700 new jobs for the area -- a higher than average figure. According to the number-crunchers at FiveThirtyEight.com the 13th district is an exception to this interesting observation: the districts represented by Republicans (every one of whom voted against the bill) will receive, on average, 5.4% more jobs than the districts represented by Democrats (all but 7 of whom supported it).

Keep up with the stimulus process at Recovery.gov, where federal agencies have been directed by the Office of Management and Budget to provide spending and performance data for each project. You can also view a recovery timeline, or leave comments with the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board.
